Harpal Dugal began his banking career in 1980 with Citibank, India. Over his 17-year tenure, he held senior leadership roles across Corporate and Consumer Banking in various Asian markets, including Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines. He managed independent business units with direct oversight of key functions such as Marketing, Sales & Distribution, Credit & Risk Management, Operations, Financial Control, Business Planning, and Internal Control.

Following his time at Citibank, Harpal joined Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), where he served as Chief Executive Officer in India. He was instrumental in shaping the Consumer Banking strategy and played a key role in SCB’s acquisition and integration of Grindlays Bank across India and the Middle East—drawing on his extensive cross-functional and international experience to lead what was then the largest foreign bank in India.

In 2007, Harpal moved to Dubai Financial Group (DFG), a subsidiary of Dubai Group, as Managing Director responsible for banking investments. He served on the boards of Bank Muscat and other Gulf banks, representing DFG as a major shareholder. In 2010, he was appointed Acting CEO of DFG, tasked with overseeing the restructuring of Dubai Group and its subsidiaries.

During his time at DFG, Harpal was also involved in acquisitions and divestitures, handling due diligence, deal structuring, negotiations, and transaction closure.

With a career spanning over four decades, Harpal brings deep experience in financial services across diverse geographies and functions, having worked with both global and regional industry leaders.
